ANSWERING CLIENT QUESTIONS "What is Keratin?"

Keratin is actually protein... and I'm sure most of you already know that. Consumers, however, often

believe that keratin is a hair relaxer. Adding keratin back into the hair DOES make it comb smoother

and shine more.. BUT it is not a "relaxer".

Keratin, which is an important protein found in natural hair consists, chiefly of the following:

CARBON. 50% - 50%

OXYGEN. 25% to 30%

NITROGEN. 8% TO 12%

SULPHUR 4% TO 6%

HYDROGEN 4% TO 5%

All these supplied by the blood stream in the form of amino acids. Amino acids are referred to as the

building blocks of the hair since hair is primarily protein. Keratin is insoluble in water, but can be broken

down by highly alkaline or acidic solutions.

While all this detail may seem unimportant.. it probably IS.. to the client. BUT the more YOU know as a

salon professional, the more secure you will be when recommending, service or guiding clients during

that every-important consultation session.
