AVOID ERRORS You DID Not Create - CLARIFY Before You Color

Manufacturers do not tell us that at times, hair lighteners and colors might not "take" as
we expect, even though we are following their instuctions to the letter. WHY? Because at times the hair is invisibly (or visibly) contaminated with buildup from dry shampoos, stying products, cellular debris or mineral buildup iin the hair. I've learned that most tap water in
the USA can contain trace levels of iron, coppor or other minerals. These variou deposits
cling to the hair. and after time, do build up and create a chemical situation which alters how
a hair color product will "take'.
YES: I KNOW: We are all playing "Beat the Clock". However, it might be best to start color
appointments by clarifying the hair.. A number of chelating products are available right now.
Years ago, salons were advised to create a clarifier by mixing hot water, shampoo and baking soda together.. This formed an alkaline solution which, when massaged throughout
dry hair, then moistened with af water formed a lather;, was massaged through the hiar, and
allowed to remain for 15 minutes. The hair was remoistened, and again, this solution was
lathered through the hair. After this, the hair was shampooed and conditioned.. the minearls and various coatings were removed... Unless the salon water was also loaded with mineral
deposits............
Today, things are easier. L"OREAL'S MINERAL DETOX Shampoo and Conditioner work miracles as does a product called GET PURE by L'AVANT GARDE. Be sure to ask your salon representative for a chelating product.. or visit a professional store to obetain advice.
Summer is here.. and that means visits to swimming pools, the ocean and lakes. The hair, as you know, is porous and holds on to what has been deposited underneath and on the cuticle.
When clients swim, the hair is constantly exposed to copper-based algaecides and chlorine which add a greenish tint to the hair. Styling products often contain metals and resins. Color, bleach, and many chemical texturizing treatments do not respont well when these are
present in the hair.
So "Pretreat to Prevent"'. particularly when your color client has traveled, spent time at the pool, or whose hair visibly shows that something looks 'dull", off-tone or darker than you might expect. Redo's Refund's or Repeat services cost time and money. You might
rearrange the order of the appointment. Cut first. rather than color first. Before starting the
cut, chelate the hair, explaining to the client why you are providing this service. .. and mention that your retail area includes aat-home clarifying treatments every client can enjoy.
Comment here to share what you are using to assure that the services you are conducting are not negatively influenced by the various deposits that can disrupt the beauty you so
professionallly create. B
I’ve used a variety of clarifying and Chelating Treatments for years! I prefer for 1st time clients or clients wanting big color changes a more intense treatment like Get Pure or Malibu Crystal Gel/CPR. Then on follow up color services if within 4-6 weeks I use something like Lanza Ultimate treatment, K18 Chelating Shampoo, or Royal Treatment by CHI Clarifying Shampoo and Treatment.
