AVOIDING UNWANTED "HEAT" when Base-Breaking

Slightly softening depth at the regrowth area, prior to creating a blonde highlight can

be a great way to provide wonderful blonde-on-blonde service to our customers.

Wella has introduced two Base Breaker cremes I enjoy using. A "double cool" I prefer

using on deeper brunettes. For that "dishwater blonde" or light brunette client, I use

Wella Base Breaker Cool. This easy-to-use product lifts the hair about one level AND

controls the possible exposure of unwanted warm undertones. I apply using a bottle,

mixing Base Breaker with 20 volume developer. Apply evenly.. yet quickly.. starting

at the back of the head. Set a timer for 5 minutes. .. as you walk your client to the

sink. At 5 minutes, take a check at the root area. And, before 7 minutes have elapsed,

rinse like crazy, shampoo and condition. That "root" area will be softly lighter and you

will be ready to begin your highlighting service. See you soon in class: Indianapolis

and Boston! B

I’ve used this technique numerous times with great success, after removing and rinsing my foils. I’ll give the Wella base breakers a try.
