Emergency Hair Color "Lifting" Shampoo

BAKING SODA has a pH of 8, which means that it is ALKALINE You may find yourself

needing a chelating shampoo to deeply cleanse.. or remove buildup of direct dye

or other coatings on the hair lengths.

It's a great idea to keep a box of baking soda in your dispensary. And, if you don't have

an appropriate "lifting" product available, here is what you can do:

In an applicator bottle, add 1 ounce of shampoo, 1 ounce of baking soda and 1 ounce of

very warm water. Shake to combine well. You have created a deep cleansing (chelating)

shampoo. Apply to damp hair and massage as normal. Allow the lather to remain in the

hair for 10 minutes. Then, rinse thoroughly, shampoo and condition the hair. Note that this

formula is NOT a bleach, but it very effectively deep cleanses and brightens the hair. Just

be sure to rinse very well before shampooiing and conditioning as usual.

Using gentle "lift" formulas is a careful way to begin corrections when a new client visits you for a correction and when the hair is too dark. Before bringing out bleach, try this to evaluate

just how much pigment must be lifted out of the hair prior to beginning a new color application.
