When hair color was invented, it was created to do ONE THING: TO COVER GRAY HAIR.
Blonde shades were named and identified as being those which would transition gray
hair to blonde. REMEMBER THAT when your client whose hair is level 5, 6 or 7 visits you
for an appointment.
SITUATION: Your client's hair is level 5 or 6 or 7. She has 20 - 50% gray (white) hair. She
wants to creamy lighter blonde result with perfect gray coverage.
TAKE AWAY: Create a creamy light blonde tone with 100% gray coverage when you choose
to use permanent hair color. I obtain great results by mixing:
1 ounce of 8NN with 1 oz of 9GB (or 9G), and 20 volume developer.
Apply. Take very fine, even sections, making sure to check to verify that all the hair at the
retouch area is covered completely. Set the timer for 45 minutes, and process this color
for 45 minutes at room temperature.
If the hair lengths are faded to a "too light" blonde shade, refresh them during the last 15 minutes of root processing by applying a "Glaze" solution using acidic demi color:
I like using:
1 oz 9G plus 1/2 oz 9NB plus 1/2 ounce Clear, mixed with low volume developer.
PS. If you choose to create blonde selected strands throughout the hair lengths, you
can do so, by painting or wrapping strands in lightener while the root retouch is processing.
