PERFECTING GRAY COVERAGE - Another Option

I know that some of our members here have studied with Goldwell, and may be using
one of their wonderful brands: TopChic Permanent Hair Color. If this is so, you may
have attended classes where we learned about using a BRISTOL FORMULA when
we were asked to cover "resistant" gray hair.. 100 Percent. This information was presented when Goldwell introduced their brand to salons here in America. As you know, TopChic'
was in an egg white base.. which made it more conditioning and a bit less alkaline than
other permanent color brands.
Goldwell's insturctors and sales associates recommended that doing so raises the
alkalinity of our color formula, thereby increasing the color's ability to very deeply
penetrate through and into the cuticle and cortex of the hair.
THE BRISTOL FORMULA consists of your usual amount of hair color BUT you will
decrease the amount of 20 volume developer 1/2. (Use 50% of the usual color formula directed by the manufacturer). Example: When a brand calls for 2 ounces of color
plus two ounces of developer, THE BRISTOL FORMULA directs that you use 2 ounces
of color and only 1 ounce of 20 volume developer. As usual, with permanent hair
color, process your client's color application at room temperature and for 45 full
minutes.. when complete coverage of gray is your focus.
I followed this direction, and. used this formula with a number of permanent hair color
brands.. just to test the coverage success I was able to obtain. It worked!. Note: I
learned this from a company representative... this is NOT my own "invention".
I share it with my advanced, expert hair color friends as a point of reference and as a
tip I learned from a major color manufacturer. Right now, I almost never use this but
share it with you as someting you might consider.
RIGHT NOW, it appears that almost every color manufacturer has made their brunette shades, (Levels one - 5, and even Level 6)...Much DARKER than they were before.
I'm not crazy about this, but then again, like all of us, I must learn to work happily
with this new reality Beth
