CREATING INTENSE COLOR DEPOSIT!

Colorists often meet a new client whose hair lengths may be previously lightened and VERY porous... which suggests hair damage. As you know, porous, damaged hair accepts
color differently than expected... usually this hair "takes" much darker and much drabber
than expected. So, attempting to refine tone.. to deepen the hair lengths can be a very
tricky situation.
Years ago, colorists had no option other than to use permanent hair color... mixing it with
fillers, low volume developer, altering shades.. and by PRAYING! Sadly the alkaline
property of permanent dyes did nothing "happy" to those already damaged portions
of the hair. In almost every case, this attempt to deepen the level of the hair created
results which were not often very attractive....
I thank the UNIVERSE that today's salon colorist can use non-alkaline demi permanent
hair color to deepen, via tint-backs or lowlighting this portion of the hair. AND, very
new, deeply pigmented color conditioners assist with this beautifully.
In my experience, the 'longest lasting" corrections on this type of VERY fragile hair can
be created by
using color conditioners: New additions are designed to hold like crazy!! I've noted that
the longer we allow these to process in the hair, the longer they will "hold on" to those
fragile hair lengths.. ranging from 5 minutes and up to 30 minutes. -- my experience.
Several I note which work very, very well: CELEB's GEM LIGHTS and VIRAL color conditioners,
OVERTONE (now available at Sally Beauty Supply!), EVO FABULOSO, WELLA, and ARTEGO LOLA.
I'm sure there are others. You might consider evaluating these products when you find
yourself needing to refine or deepen highly porous, damaged hair lengths. Needless to
say, I demonstrate their use at my hair color learning sessions. I look forward to seeing
you in class. email me at any time: bethminardi@gmail.com.
