Embracing The Future

Research reveals that by 2030, 1.2 billion women in the world will be pre menopausal or menopausal. Only recently, has medicine deeply researched how this dramatic hormonal change affects women; thereby affecting the entire population. Historically, women had nowhere to turn for real support or for symptomatic relief. Privately speaking with one another was their chief method of obtaining advice and understanding


In the past, a woman’s life expectancy, on average, was 37 years. So, few women lived long enough to experience this often highly symptomatic life change which most often takes place between ages mid 40’s to mid 50’s. . Today, the average lifespan for a woman is 80 years.


Menopausal symptoms can be highly charged- including significant physical and emotional issues. These impact how a woman feels and how she attempts to support her marriage, family life, social relationships and the work place. Suffering in silence has not proven to be a successful approach.


Recently, the medical profession has deeply researched this profound medical situation, and continues to explore the impact of human hormonal disruption. Treatment for physical and emotional issues which accompany menopause is now available, and gynecological conferences often focus on menopausal health.


Hopefully, society is becoming a more open place- where attitudes are changing, and where people are freer to more openly ask for help when they need it. Menopause support groups now exist, and health care workers have information so that they can refer women to support groups and therapists. At times, medically prescribed hormones can minimize or eliminate physical symptoms.


TALK THERAPY might be one of the most calming, supportive places a woman can enjoy. Being able to sit, to relax, and to feel welcome .. and heard , can have a most healing emotional effect. Visiting with good friends, being a member of a book club, community project or womens’ church group are all places where women can share, listen and relax. … and From personal experience, zi’ve learned that a beauty salon can be one of those places where they can obtain a sense of community, speak about thoughts on their minds, hear what others have to say, and not be ‘alone’ during a time in life that might be extremely challenging.
