As hair damage (porosity) increases, so does hair's ability to "grab" color
deposit darker and deeper than expected. Remember: Even "virgin hair"
can be porous due to sun and/or environmental exposure. And, bleached
hair, being very porous, accepts demi-color deeper than the shade description
noted on the container.
Experienced salon colorists know that demi-permanent hair color is designed
to DEPOSIT both level and tone.. without lightening pigmented hair. These
shades color gray hair to the level and tone printed on the color's container.
So, a level 6 golden shade will cover gray to a level 6... and can also affect
the current shade of the hair which is still pigmented... and, the more porous
or damaged or chemically treated the hair is, the deeper the pigmented hair
will appear.
When we "play it safe" by selecting a no-lift demi-permanent hair color shade
which is 1 - 2 levels lighter than the result we desire, we can create gorgeous ,
modern shade-on-shade gray coverage, as we infuse rich, yet controlled color
enhancement on the hair which has not yet turned gray.
Hey Beth.
What level cream Demi would you recommend for my client with a natural level 7? We do highlights but she is starting to have more gray coming in and we are looking for something to shade her gray between the foils or potentially between highlighting appointments.
