NEW HAIR REPAIR SERVICES: Beyond "Conditioning"

STAY TUNED! As a new year unfolds, more product designers will be introducing bio-memetic products that very effectively create hair "repair" options which can remain

effective for more than only a few shampoos. Remember: TODAY, NOTHING COMPLETELY REPAIRS HAIR. Hair lengths are not "living" fibers. Think of a broken

vase. You can glue it together very effectively, but the vase will never be quite a strong

as it was before it was broken.

HOWEVER: new scientific discovery has made it possible to vastly improve the type of hair conditioning we had been able to create in the past. Remember this: POLYMERS are formed when large numbers of similar molecules combine. HAIR KERATIN is a POLYMER

made up of 18 different amino acids. POLYMERS of amino acids are called PROTEINS.

HAIR KERATIN is a PROTEIN.

Two PROTEIN CHAINS make up a CROSSLINK. CROSSLINKS help bind hair together,

giving it strength and elasticity. These are known as DI-SULFIDE BONDS. Environmental

stress and application of alkaline products can reduce or break DI-SULFIDE BONDS. Today, there is no PERMANENT WAY by which we can completely repair these broken

crosslinks.. but there are newer products that create a strong, temporary "BRIDGE" which

helps damaged hair to remain stronger, easier to comb and able to withstand breakage

for an extended period of time. These products do far more than to moisturize and protect

the cuticle. They go deepinto the hair's cortex -- where the broken bonds reside, and they acidify and close the cuticle.
