I spend a portion of my class discussions sharing our community’s mission: Elevating Hair Color to an Art Form. That’s a pretty ambitious goal, but I continue to believe that as artists and business people, it’s best to reach for the stars. Doing all we can to remain inspired and informed really matters.
But, how might we address the less-than-respected reputation our line of work continues to carry?

I obtained some very valuable insight into our situation when, by chance, I watched a video of Julia Child being interviewed. The host asked her when chefs (1970’s) were not respected for their talents, how she might respond. Julia’s mission was to change that opinion. Here are the words she used: “An Honorable Discipline”. Two wonderful words!
So, perhaps salon professionals and cosmetology instructors might share this short description when they encounter that "I’m just a hairdresser" tone echoing around them. We are masters in an "Honorable Discipline”. B.
There are several factors that constitute Julia’s saying, but I feel two of the most important are educating yourself to be the very best and believing in one’s self worth. A great quote from a pioneer that reestablished her own profession.
Yes, we work in an honorable discipline Beth! I continue my education in cutting, styling, color, and organic hair care. I feel the reflection of continued progress is due to my dedication to my clients, myself and the discipline of being a hair stylist.
